Juan Soto signs with Mets – 12/9/24

Juan Soto signs with the Mets for 15 Years, $765 million. My initial offseason prediction was that he’d sign with the Mets for 13 Years, $550 million. I expect this may be one of the only offseason predictions where I correctly predict the team the player signs with. I like this deal for the Mets for the next 5-6 years, but after that they’re going to be paying a DH $51 Million per year. I’d love to start a project where I analyze the mega-deals that have been signed within the last couple of years, because I imagine the back-half of many of them will look like the back-half of Albert Pujols’ tenure with the Angels: I do not think these deals will age well. Out of the mega-deals in recent memory (Ohtani, Judge, Harper, Turner, Correa, Trout, Betts, to name a few off the top of my head), it seems that only the Dodgers have won a World Series while managing these contracts.

I’m excited to see how this affects the Mets and where they will fall in the NL East shuffle among the Braves and Phillies.
